San Andres Huayapam is only 15 minutes away from downtown. The town is visited by tourists because in this town is obtained the “Rosita de cacao”(A small, white and perfumed flower from a three called “Rosital”) which is used to make a exquisite pre-Hispanic non alcoholic drink called “Tejate”

In Nahuatl Huayapam means “above the sea”, it comes from the words hueyatl which means sea, and pan that means on. Because the town is away from the coast the name is considered just a commemorative name. The climate is dry with summer rains.
